I can't believe it's Sunday again. This week really passed quickly. Spring has arrived here in North Texas as the trees have just started to bud. The Pear trees are blooming and the burmuda is starting to green up. We have had a lot of rain this week. So, I decided to just head to the sewing room and tackle my March goals. I finished making my Cheddarback quilt blocks!
Then started on the five blocks I needed to make for my mystery quilt!
There was even time to make some great progress on my Linen and Threads SAL. I should be able to finish March's stitches on it today!
I finished Santa # 3 early this week and I think he turned out quite well!
Next up Santa# 4! I have decided it would be fun to tea/coffee stain some 18ct aida for the next three Santas. It looks pretty easy to do, but time will tell. If you have some experience with this I would love to hear your tips or experience on this subject!
I love all your stitches! our grass is turning green here too! before you know it the lawn mowers will be out - actually I had mine out to mulch the last of the late fall leaves that I hadn't gotten around to
ReplyDeleteYes we had to lower the mower deck and mow are burmuda for its spring scalp. Now it's really starting to grow. A whole lot of rainy days is a bummer but I know it won't be long and dry sunny days will win. In the mean time a lot of stitches can be enjoyed
DeleteThe Santa stitchery is so sweet! I have tea dyed before... fun and easy... just leave it in the tea pot until the desired effect is accomplished. I like that it is unpredictable and you can get really interesting shading and then cut the part to use that you like the best.
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking up to Slow Sunday Stitching!
I gave it a try yesterday and hour so right, very easy. I watched a video on Flosstube with the real housewives of crossstitch and it was very informative
DeleteSanta #3 looks wonderful. So does your SAL piece. I love those quilt blocks.
ReplyDeleteThanks I cant wait to quilt Cheddarback but I know it will be a while as the summer heat is about to arrive
DeleteYou have been keeping busy! Love how santa came out. Hope you are able to get some nice walks outside in the sunshine .... as long as the pollen doesn't bother you.
ReplyDeleteI truly enjoy my daily walks but all this rain makes it hard sometimes
DeleteGreat projects. I love that Santa stitchery!
ReplyDeleteI'm loving these Santas too. On to #4
DeleteThe cheddarback blocks look perfect. Enjoy the mystery quilt. Santa #3 is great! How are you going to finish? No experience here tea dying aida. I’ve only done quilt fabric. Perhaps you can practice on a scrap piece of leftover aida.
ReplyDeleteI haven't decided on how they will get finished. I am thinking making them into little pillows so I can display them in a basket. But that may be subject to change
DeleteI, too, was thinking about tea staining some fabric. I read (I think it was Jan Patek) somewhere that she just put the dye/tea in a spray bottle and sprayed it on the item to be stained. And then set it out in the sun, spraying it again if she wanted it darker. I'm sure you could find instructions on youtube. I brewed up a stain with walnut hulls and boiling water once. It turned out really dark even though I just immersed the fabric in the water and then rinsed it thoroughly. But, I used a lot of hulls so next time I will only use a few.
ReplyDeleteI watched a video on Flosstube that the Real Housewives of Crosstitch made. It was easy and I am happy with the results. Now to start stitching!
DeleteYour colors in your Linen & Threads SAL are pretty. I went with one color as well. It's fun to see this project in so many of our SSS group.
ReplyDeleteA lot are using varigated thread but I like the high contrast a one color thread brings to the project
DeleteHow lovely the trees are beginning to bud for you. Lovely too, that you are working on all those pretty stitching pretties. You are making wonderful progress.
ReplyDeleteYes it's always so lovely to see the first signs of spring. Thanks for stopping by
