Medallion Day 4 +

Well with all the pieces pre-cut for the next two sections, today I will enjoy the paper piecing process.  It takes a bit of time to press each piece and then trim to one quarter inch seam and line up the next piece and stitch.  But the results are well worth it on a block like this.  I can't imagine trying to handpiece or applique this block.   I have included some pics I took today as I worked.  I didn't quite get all of these done in one afternoon, so I got up early this am and finished making the last four units.

my add a quarter rule has really come in handy

stitching next to the fold line really helps to keep the stitching straight

love the accuracy I am getting

I must say my favorite part is trimming the unit to its final size.  Then turning it over and seeing a beautiful unit.  I am so happy to have these pieces completed.  Next, it will be time to assemble it! But that will have to wait for another day!

What's Next?

I am ready for a change, this winter has been too long.  Next weekend brings us Daylight Savings Time and spring officially begins on March 20th. So why not jump the gun and pull out a summer project and do some slow stitching.  In the winter, I generally am hand quilting but as warmer weather approaches I often time enjoy applique.
Last year I started Baltimore Garden.  It is a 25 block album quilt based on an antique quilt.

Now I just need to figure out where I am on this block and start stitching. It should be quite simple since the prepared pieced are all numbered and waiting in my folder. I lined it with some batting so it works as a mini design wall keeping them safe and flat.

I think I will applique the center of my compass block down first. I might need a little warm up since it has been awhile since I have done any applique.

I am also linking up with Slow Stitching Sunday.
