Trapunto Complete!

I completed the trapunto on Amish Ice Cream Social! I am so glad that I over came my fear of trying this technique. But, since I had put all the work into hand quilting these four feathered wreaths, I did think they needed to be appreciated. It really made such a difference in even knowing that they were there. I use yarn and a darning needle to fill the feathers from the back of the quilt. My only concern was the holes that were created by the large needle. I kept reminding myself that since I was using a darning needle it was not harming the strands but spreading them apart. So I plugged along, hoping I had not damaged a quilt that had taken a lot of hours to make. So last night, I threw it in the wash and was so pleased as there is not a trace of where the needle had made holes as I pulled the yarn thru the fabric!

Bloggers Quilt Festival

Amy's Creative Side is once again holding Bloggers Quilt Festival!  What a great idea to allow bloggers to link their quilt to an appropriate category and share their efforts with others in the quilt world.
I have decided to link Amish Ice Cream Social to the hand quilting category. This quilt started as an effort to tame the scrap box. When it comes to quilting, I love anything that involves hand work, so my scrappy stars are appliqued onto the solid background, which allows for a lot of space for hand quilting. The quilt measures 74 inches x 74 inches.
So if your in need of some inspiration, you might want to stop over at the Bloggers Quilt Festival and see what others are doing.

Ta-Da Moment!

Well, Amish Ice Cream Social is complete!  Overall measurement is 78" X 78".  This quilt was totally made from fabrics in my stash.  The picture below shows that I went thru 3-200 meter spools equaling 600 meters of quilting thread.  The batting is cream rose cotton batting by Mountain Mist.  It was a dream to quilt and washed up nicely, and gives you that crinkled antique look with a lovely drape.  I used a cable/feather twist around the border and four feathered wreaths with stars in the middle where the blocks intersect, all connected with one inch crosshatching. Whew! Glad it is  finished before things warm up too much around here.

Turning the corner

I have been stitching all afternoon.  My hope was  that I finish one side of the border per week.  I didn't quite accomplish my goal today.  I have the feathers and cable done on the second side but only about one half of the crosshatching. I still have a few hours to stitch this evening, but first I am heading over to Kathy's Quilts to see what others are slow stitching.

A star is born!

 IMG_1031
Being the frugal quilter that I am, I had to decide what to do with a box of scraps.  The strips were all under two inches wide, but it seemed wasteful just to pitch them.  I decided to turn them into beautiful stars.  I used Bonnie Hunter's website for inspiration!  She does so many wonderful  things and offers so much support and ideas for quilters.  I used old telephone book pages as my foundation.  I also used Bonnie’s leader and ender method to work on these all summer long.  Once I get all the stars assembled, it will be time to applique them to the background fabric.   I love the way my first star turned out, all the scraps of fabric really make it sparkle.
