Slow Stitching Sunday

Today is Sunday and I love linking up to Slow Stitching Sunday over at Kathy's Quilts and see what others are hand stitching.  It's so much fun to see everyones projects and their progress week to week.  In a world where things seem to be so fast paced, it's nice to take the time for oneself.  Hand work has alway been a passion of mine and it's such a relaxing thing to do!  Today, I will be working on Santa # 1's face.  Not too many stitches left, however I discovered I don't have the thread for his cheeks so he won't be finished today.

But, there is always another project that needs some stitches.  I am nearing the end of hand quilting my trailing vines.  The last strip is all that is left and I started it a few days ago.  I am really excited to have some finishes, it's been a while. With hand work they don't seem to happen very often, but when they do they are well worth the wait, in my opinion.  I realized this week however, that I don't have any fabric to finish the binding on this quilt, so I will start my search this week.  I wish I had thought ahead on this one, and done a knife edge finish instead of a binding, but it's too late to go in that direction.   So, the search will begin.

  2. Your Santa is looking GREAT! Sorry you don't have the "right color" for his cheeks.... maybe you could go shopping and get a skein of just the right color to pink them up! I love your striped quilting progress... the outer border strip I really like... I hope you find some fabric this week in your stash or the store that will be fitting for your quilt finish... you could also raid your scraps and make it scrappy like the vines are :) Have a great week... sounds like it will be busy for you ! 1. Yes I will definitely be stopping by and picking up that color of dmc. There's nothing stopping me from starting #2 santa either so between the hand quilting and the santas there are plenty of stitches that will be made.

  3. I love that quilt! I don't always think of binding either but lately I have been trying to remember to put left over fabric with the quilt top when it is put aside in the "to be quilted" basket and then keep it there until the quilting is finished and have it handy and where I know to find it.

    1. I really thought I had at least a yard of this fabric left, but I guess I kept dreaming that cause it's not in my stash. I am sure with a little searching I can find the right fabric. I haven't been out shopping in a while so I am due.

    1. Thanks, I am so happy to be on the final panel as soon it will warm up here and being under a wool quilt is not where I will want to be.

    1. The cables are really fun to stitch and I am happy with the wool batting that they aren't disappearing in the print!

    1. The knife edge finish would have been perfect for this quilt, but you really need to plan and think ahead as you have to leave that space unquilted. Oh well, it will keep for another project. Amazing how there is always something we still want to try even after years of quilting.

  7. It's funny but there are several of us working on Christmas projects! We're just very prepared! Santa is so sweet, pity you haven't got his cheek colour. The end is definitely in sight on your quilt, looking forward to seeing it finished.

  9. You are so close to having your Santa done! How are you going to finish it. Priscilla from "Stitching With the Real Housewives of Cross Stitch" decorates a Christmas tree with the Prairie Schooler Santas. Large ornaments but tastefully decorated tree.

    1. Karen, thanks for asking, not really sure yet! I think I will make up the 12 patterns I have and then decide how to finish them. I thought a basket ful might be fun since we no longer decorate a tree, but then I could always get a new tree. I have a feeling I will be ordering some more of the patterns cause I just love them to death.

    1. Thanks so much! It is actually coming out better than my brain imagined. That doesn't happen too often, so I am just thrilled! Must say it is worth every stitch I have had to put in it!
