I decided to change things up this month. I started this month working on my wonky star block first. I dug thru the scrap bin and found enough reds, but a lot of them are reproduction prints and I wondered how it will look with the other brighter blocks, but it is what it is. As you can see in the photo below, I got all the pieces cut and laid out and now I just need to stitch it together and give it a good press.
I am linking up with Angela and others over Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2014. This month's color is red. So if you have some some red scraps that need to be turned into blocks join and us and share your red project.

I like the scrappy wonky star block. I am doing this one too. I haven't done red yet
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing your red block soon! It is a fun block to piece.
DeleteI think that "regular" reds look just fine with repros. That is part of the fun of monochromatic.
ReplyDeleteI agree I held up some of the brighter blocks and it looks just fine. Most of them have a bit of that regular fabric in it so it should all balance out. Actually I really like the interest that it adds.
DeleteI think you can mix fabric styles in this too. I shall be using reproduction fabrics along with modern ones as well. I was hesitant too, but they're red, and they're scraps ...!
ReplyDeleteYes, it is sometimes hard to let go of what we think is right. It sure is more fun when you don't worry about it and just go for it.
DeleteThe rainbow challenge sounds like a great way to use up scraps ; ) Enjoy
ReplyDeleteThanks Carla! It is fun to see what everyone is doing with their scraps, so many wonderful projects.
DeleteComing along nicely!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for taking the time to comment, I enjoy reading everyone's thoughts.
DeleteIt looks great so far. Looking forward to seeing the finish next week.
ReplyDeleteThanks Nell! I also need to get a start on those pickle dish blocks.
DeleteSo many pretty reds you get to play with. I need to put away the last three months colors and pull out the reds.
ReplyDeleteI would have never tried doing a quilt by color like we are for RSC. I really love the outcome.
DeleteI have the same issue with mixing reproduction and modern fabrics. I keep thinking I will one day make an entire reproduction fabric RSC project!
ReplyDeleteI don't know if I want to go back now, that bit of sparkle is so wonderful in a quilt top.
DeleteLove this block...
ReplyDeleteHugs
Thanks Teri
DeleteI think most anything goes when we're working through scraps for monochromatic blocks.Love your red scraps.
ReplyDeleteI think you are so right!
DeleteThe red scraps look great! Hopefully they'll still be fabulous with the others (or course, scraps usually do).
ReplyDeleteYeah I held up one of the brighter blocks and they all have a bit of that regular fabric so I have decided it will be just fine.
DeleteRed is red...reproduction or not! Mix and match I always say!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I am learning that! I should have been braver earlier in my quilting career.
DeleteLooks great I have been mixing my repros in lately with other fabrics and have been happy
ReplyDeletetook awhile to seeing it that way and get out of the only repro mindset.
I love making wonky stars hope you make a whole quilt from these!
