Stitching Away!

It's been a very hot week here!  Friday was 105 with the humidity at about 40 percent!  I needed to get some ribbon to turn Santa# 11 into a finished ornament, so I headed out and on the way home I got stuck in some road construction.  As I was sitting and waiting for our turn to pass thru the one lane road my check engine light came on and my eyesight system turned off!  UGH!    You know that aweful feeling in your tummy when things go wrong.  Well, I was only about a mile from home so I continued home and my husband and I got out the manual.   Well, our car has about three or four manuals and so it took a while but we figured out what the problem might be.  I guess the eyesight system only works with a certain temperature range and it had just gotten too HOT!  So after about 15 minutes in the garage we went back out and everything was back to normal. WHOOo HOO!  So I sat down with a cool drink and started Santa#11 take two.  I haven't gotten very far but he is coming along.

Saturday my husband joined my son for a day of mudding in his Razor!  So what a lovely time for me to spend some time in  the sewing room.  I found a tutorial by Vonna Pfeiffer ,the twisted stitcher, that seemed pretty easy.  I really don't have much experience with finishing cross stitch projects and hope to explore that subject more this next year. This is a simple pillow ornament, however I changed the hanger and sewed it into the seam of the pillow instead of hand sewing it on afterwards.   I am happy with the turnout and hope my online quilting friend will like it too!  Now to get it off in the mail this week.

I am hoping to make some progress today on Santa #11 take two, as the new chart for the Linen and  Threads SAL 2020 chart will come out for September.  I also need to find time to get back in the sewing room and turn my Kathy Schmitz embroidery into a pillow.  I picked out some fabrics from my stash now I need to make sure I have enough of each fabric and get it sewn up!

    1. Thanks Cathie! Yes I am very grateful it was just the temperature that made it stop working. Yes I hope to do the math to turn it into a 16x16 inch pillow, nothing fancy but should be cute I think

    1. Yes the men folk are loving the razor and I enjoy having a day to myself. My husband and I get along well but I do miss those days to myself when he was still working. I am getting excited about finishing these Santa's now that I have this one done.

    1. Yes my car tells me the car in front of you has moved if I don't get going fast enough !!!! All this technology is wonderful, but I sure am glad I have my simple stitching to turn to to relax! Cooler here don't think we will hit 100 today and in the 80s starting Tuesday I can't wait for fall to arrive!

  6. Cars can drive you mad sometimes, my tyre pressure light came on and is still on even though I've put air in the tyres, it will have to stay on because I haven't a clue what to do next. I love your santa he has lovely rosy cheeks, have a great week.

    1. Oh we had that happen last summer when we drove to Seattle! I guess our tire pressure was set for Texas not the mountains and cooler temps. It wouldn't reset either not sure how it got resolved Think the dealer looked at it during an oil change. Yes these features are helpful sometimes but when they act up I am wondering if they are worth it. I agree about Santa's rosy cheeks!!!!

  10. Your finish is wonderful on that beauty of a Santa. That always causes me problems to finish things off I mean. Meanwhile, my ipad stopped working outside one day and the message told me it had gotten too hot. Here we had an unusually hot July and it never crossed my mind about the heat. Always learning these days it seems. Love your Kathy's Bee too! Happy Stitching from me.

    1. Thanks, yes I have a lot to learn about finishing my projects I haven't come across a good book of finishing ideas but there seems to be quite a bit on You Tube. Finding the time and sitting down to do it seems to be a problem for me too!

  12. Out in your car in that kind of heat, and something goes wrong does not sound good! So glad you got home safely and you and hubby were able to figure it out. Your quilting Santa ornament turned out beautifully! Are you making him again for yourself? Yours is the second blog I've visited who stitched the Bee Kind design, and I love it! I might have to go and get that for myself!

  13. What a gorgeous Santa! Though I can't imagine stitching anything Christmassy in that heat! It's starting to get a bit of a chill in the air in England, so maybe I can start some Christmas projects soon

  14. It is an awful feeling when one’s car breaks down on the road or even in a parking lot. Lucky you were close to home. Fine job on Santa ornament. Love that bow. The Twisted Stitcher has nice videos and I learn from them.

  15. Your finished Santa looks fabulous as a sweet pillow ornament with the pretty red ribbon. It is always worrying when a red light goes on in a car. Fabulous that it righted itself. Gosh 105 degrees is a tad hot!
