Sometimes keeping it simple is the solution! I thought from the start that would be the best approach for my Texas Star Quilt. But I had the idea that simple diagonal lines would be the way to go until I started marking. So, I played around and soon came up with a new plan. So happy, to now just enjoy putting in these simple stitches to turn this into a usable quilt.
I'm using a sliver of soap to mark my stitching line on the stars! |
Love this striped star! |
Lovely, Carla!!
ReplyDeleteThanks! It's so nice to be stitching
DeleteLove it! Fits the quilt perfectly.
ReplyDeleteI love it when a plan comes together. And using a quarter to mark my circles makes it really easy!
Deletethat quilting will look amazing--what a lovely project to work on...hugs, Julierose
ReplyDeleteThanks, there is nothing better than some hand stitching if you ask me!
DeleteLovely EPP stars and quilting!
ReplyDeleteI hand pieced the stars as doing EPP has always hurt my hands. Not sure why cause hand piecing doesn't. Someone told me to try it with paper instead of card stock and that might be it but haven't had the time. Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteHow do you get the soap edge to be thin enough to mark the line for stitching?
ReplyDeleteI'd like to try that!
I use the slivers of soap after they are too thin to use. I just lay them on a paper towel to dry. The line is thicker that a mechanical pencil but I usually just quilt down the middle of it! It is really great for dark fabrics!
DeletePERFECT quilting solution for this quilt!! It's looking really good.
ReplyDeleteThanks, each quilt is different but I love when you try something and it just pleases you. Thanks for stopping by
DeleteLove your fabric choices. The quilting is going be perfect!
ReplyDeleteQuilts are all about the fabric aren't they! Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteLovely quilting!
ReplyDeleteThanks, I learned to piece so I could learn to hand quilt. Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteEvery time I try to hand quilt circles they end up looking wonky. I dream that someday my circles will look like yours. Also a question...what type of batting do you use?
ReplyDeleteI find with circles I can only put a couple of stitches on my needle and I really try to make that needle come up on my line. I am using Hobbs poly/down. It is really lovely to quilt and has a nice loft like wool. I use wool when the budget allows, but have had no problems with Hobbs poly down.
DeleteInteresting way to quilt your stars! Keep sewing
ReplyDeleteThanks, a bit of the unexpected but in my eyes it seems to work.
DeleteI love how you are quilting this quilt... keep the fun in it and keep on going girl! I love it <3 Kathi
ReplyDeleteThanks Kathi! So glad to have something in the hoop since it's been a while.
DeleteThe stripe star got my attention as soon as I saw the stars picture. Love it!
ReplyDeleteYeah makes me want to do a whole quilt with stripes!
DeleteThe quilting pattern is lovely. Yes the stripe star is a beauty.
ReplyDeleteThanks glad you like it and thanks for stopping by
DeleteI like this quilting pattern a lot - the hexagons and circles make a lovely repeat motif.
ReplyDeleteYes, I love love love when I an balance the quilting with the pieced design. I think I got lucky and am very pleased!
DeleteAhh.. So amazing what a difference a little bit of stitching can make. Love seeing the texture start to come into play!
ReplyDeleteI agree and the stitching doesn't have to be fancy. Just like your stippled heart I think I hit the jackpot. Quilting a quilt will always be my favorite part of making a quilt!!!!!!
DeleteI really like your quilt and the fact that you called it "a usable quilt". That's the best kind isn't it! The quilts I make are to be used for covers and not bedspreads. ;)
ReplyDeleteAll of my quilts get used to cover with when needed. Except Baltimore Garden and she works hard everyday hanging on the wall and making me smile.
