August brings us light and bright green, finally a use for the lime green solid fabric scraps that are the result of cutting the backing fabric from my Amish Ice Cream Social appliqued stars. They have been in the scrap bin for a while. I wasn't really sure how to cut them up so they went in whole.
I spent Friday sorting thru my scrap box again. I was so happy to find some more black and white prints, hopefully they will get me thru the year.

Sorting through the scrap basket can feel a little like Christmas. So many fun fabrics hiding in yours. Hope they will be enough for your blocks.

DeleteLooking forward to seeing the light and bright pickle dish block. I too have some scraps that aren't cut into any particular size but are just tossed in whole. I think I'm better able to use them to best advantage if left whole.
ReplyDeleteApplique scraps can get pretty ugly looking. I try to cut them up when possible but sometimes it is better to leave them whole.

ReplyDeleteI am not sure what Sept Oct Nov and December will bring that may happen to me too! I have been working on using up scraps since 2011. It is hard not to buy fabric sometimes but I promised myself I would use up my scraps first. I only have allowed myself to purchase backing or solids to go with my scraps.
DeleteDon't you just love the variety of b/w fabrics out there? I'm going to have to make a quilt using b/w as the backgound. They work so perfectly in your Pickle Dish.

ReplyDeleteI agree they are fun to sort, but I am cutting the small scraps and bits into 1.5 inch squares and that gets old pretty quickly. I am going to try and spend about a half hour each morning and see if that helps. I really like having the box of squares to chain piece or use as leaders and enders when I get in the mood to sit behind the machine.

DeleteI have little bits of black and white on black prints if you need some more. Not sure how big they are but I can check and let you know. Looking forward to the pickle dishes.

DeleteI think I will make it now that I have found some at the bottom of the box. It is so good see the amount of scraps get smaller and smaller. That is what seven quilt tops made and four more in the making will do
