Baltimore Garden Block #14

It feels so good to be working on Baltimore Garden again.  I started this block last year, but only got a few leaves appliqued when the weather started to turn.  Once those cool days arrived it was time to switch to hand quilting.   So last Sunday I got the block out and got to work.
As I said in my previous post, I decided to switch out the layered flowers in this block for some ruched flowers.  I am so happy with the way it turned out.  The flowers won't get stitched to the block till after the quilt is quilted. They can interfere with hooping and throw off the tension, so for now they are just laying where they will get added.

  2. oh Carla! Would LOVE a tute on these flowers and do you just "tack them down" once your quilting is finished??? Totally loving this block... will all your quilt blocks for this project be 3d or is this the center block so it is 3d? Keep up the AMAZING work! Thanks for sharing it! Kathi

    1. No not all the blocks are 3-d, most of the other blocks have layered flowers. There is a tab at the top of my blog with all the posts of blocks I have done for Baltimore Garden. Thie type of ruched flower is often used on Baltimore Album type quilts.

  3. Yes there will be a few others. Most blocks have layered flowers so they are more dimensional than regular applique. Ruched flowers are often used on Baltimore Album type quilts.

    1. Thanks Kathy, I got that tip from another quilter who does gorgeous Baltimore album quilts. It is so wonderful to have quilters who share their knowledge and the internet to communicate them. Happy stitching!
