The hand quilting!

The hand quilting has begun!  It always seems like it takes forever to get a quilt to this point.  However, for me, it's about making a quilt that makes me happy and that does take some time.  I have come to enjoy the whole process, but the hand quilting is still the part that brings me a lot of joy.

Well, it's a good thing, as this quilt needs a lot of stitches to make me feel it is complete.  I debated where to start quilting it as it is a strippy quilt. But decided why not finish the center and work out like I normally do, that way it gets easier to work on in my hoop as I go.  I marked all the pink panels with a cable design but, I hadn't fully decided on the leaf panels.  I will mark them as I go.  First I am stitching around all the applique, no marking needed for that and then I am adding a diagonal 45 degree line every inch across that panel. I think, each panel will lean a different direction, but that could change, time will tell.  But, I do know it's very nice knowing that this quilt is in the hoop.   That means I can sneak in a few minutes here and there and add some hand quilting stitches.  It doesn't get better than that!

  1. Oh, how lovely your hand quilting is. Love the cable pattern and those little stitches marching up the vine and around those beautiful scrappy leaves are perfect. I too, love the journey of making a quilt. I love how with each tiny stitch, day in....day out, always results in a most beautiful quilt when the very last stitch is stitched. I think there is nothing as lovely as a hand quilted quilt...AND....may I say your quilt is going to be a beauty.

    1. Yeah at first I thought would fdo a half inch grid behind the leaves. I decided to try one inch first and when saw the 45 degree lines it looked like just enough quilting next to the cable. I'm so glad it's all decided!

  3. I totally get what you are saying...I love this stage of making a quilt! And even though it takes a small forever, the connection to the quilt and the lovely texture make it worth the effort. Your quilt is so pretty!

  6. I used to enjoy the hand quilting process. Now I find it difficult to baste a big quilt for hand quilting. I have come to enjoy watching the progress of others who still can take and enjoy the time involved.

    1. I often see quilting on antiques that inspires me to try on a quilt I'm making. I say if it worked there it surely can't hurt my top.

  8. That's a lot of quilting in that cable but looks so good when it is done. There just is no finish on a quilt like hand quilting. I could stare at all those stitches for hours. It makes the quilt just look different and beautiful!
