Parts

I finished up all of the 16 patches needed for my quilt. They are so pretty all stacked up in piles of ten so I could keep count as I made them.  So Tuesday I started cutting the background fabric.  I need a lot of setting triangles so I decided the easiest way to cut them was to start with a square and cut diagonally from corner to corner.  I started with an extra half inch and will need to trim my rows down before sewing together, but I think it will really make things a whole lot easier overall.

I love all the color in this quilt!  I am using some vintage fabric I found at my mom's house. I think it is perfect to showcase the bits of scraps I sewed together into the sixteen patches. I am already thinking about how it will be quilted.  Never to early to think about that! But first it needs to become a top!

    1. Thanks Wendy! It is such a good feeling to get these out of the plastic shoe box and sewn together into something useful.

  3. Oh, that is going to be gorgeous. Great choice of fabric for the triangles.
I pulled out my snails trail top to check the size. a little 'fixing' on one row and then I can make a backing. Think the kids will let me get some sewing time this afternoon and tomorrow?

    1. Your hunter star is gorgeous. I made a small one years and years ago but didn't have the ruler and it was quite tedious. Looking forward to seeing your snails trail again still on my list to do.

  9. Carla, I love this quilt you are making!! Are you using 2 1/2" squares for your 16 patches? Love how you are "sashing" them too! Kathi

    1. It could be done with 2.5 inch squares but I am using 1.5. I am very happy with it and to think all scraps and some vintage fabric

    1. I really have found chain piecing and enjoying the piles of blocks really helps me to get the machine piecing done. I don't mind making a whole block once in a while but to make a quilt by making blocks just bores me to death. I also find I make far fewer mistakes this way!
