I finished up all of the 16 patches needed for my quilt. They are so pretty all stacked up in piles of ten so I could keep count as I made them. So Tuesday I started cutting the background fabric. I need a lot of setting triangles so I decided the easiest way to cut them was to start with a square and cut diagonally from corner to corner. I started with an extra half inch and will need to trim my rows down before sewing together, but I think it will really make things a whole lot easier overall.
I love all the color in this quilt! I am using some vintage fabric I found at my mom's house. I think it is perfect to showcase the bits of scraps I sewed together into the sixteen patches. I am already thinking about how it will be quilted. Never to early to think about that! But first it needs to become a top!

this well look really great looking forward to seeing it all put together
ReplyDeleteThanks Karen! It has been so much fun it is going together much more quickly than I thought it would. Cleaning day tomorrow but I hope to find some time to do some assembly.
DeleteWhat a fun quilt! Scrap quilts are my favorite and this one is a beauty!
ReplyDeleteThanks Wendy! It is such a good feeling to get these out of the plastic shoe box and sewn together into something useful.
DeleteOh, that is going to be gorgeous. Great choice of fabric for the triangles.
ReplyDeleteI pulled out my snails trail top to check the size. a little 'fixing' on one row and then I can make a backing. Think the kids will let me get some sewing time this afternoon and tomorrow?
Your hunter star is gorgeous. I made a small one years and years ago but didn't have the ruler and it was quite tedious. Looking forward to seeing your snails trail again still on my list to do.
DeleteOoooh, those are looking fantastic! I can't wait to see more!
ReplyDeleteLots of color for sure! Looking forward to the rows going together. Not my favorite part of making a quilt but definitely necessary. LOL
DeleteLove those postage stamp size squares! This is going to make a beautiful quilt. I adore scrappy quilts. I did a postage size stamp one for a baby quilt. What fun it was.

ReplyDeleteLove all the color and all those tiny little postage stamp size pieces. I did a postage stamp quilt for a baby gift in pastels. It was such fun to do. Can't wait to see your finished product. Love the navy fabric you chose for the setting.
ReplyDeleteThanks! Who would think working with squares would be so much fun. I agree so glad I pulled it out to see if it would work
DeleteThis is going to be so pretty...love all of the colors : )
ReplyDeleteMe too! So bright and cheery. I usually can come up with a name but haven't come up with anything for this one.
DeleteCarla, I love this quilt you are making!! Are you using 2 1/2" squares for your 16 patches? Love how you are "sashing" them too! Kathi
ReplyDeleteIt could be done with 2.5 inch squares but I am using 1.5. I am very happy with it and to think all scraps and some vintage fabric
DeleteWhat a fun post! I do the same thing, look at all my parts and pieces and think how pretty it all is.:)
ReplyDeleteI really have found chain piecing and enjoying the piles of blocks really helps me to get the machine piecing done. I don't mind making a whole block once in a while but to make a quilt by making blocks just bores me to death. I also find I make far fewer mistakes this way!
DeleteLooks great! I love quilts with lots of fabrics. The blue setting fabric is perfect. Looking forward to seeing it together and what you select for quilting.
