How does your garden grow?

Well, this week I started adding the little flowers between the swags on the border of Baltimore Garden.  I made such progress last week stitching the swags in place for all four borders.  Now, working on these flowers I seem to be back to a snail's pace.  I try to remember that even the flowers in the garden take time to grow and bloom.  The swags on their own are quite boring!

But a few little flowers between the swags and soon things are looking better. I have been prepping the pieces for each flower as I go, but I am wondering if it would be better if I prepped all of the flowers or at least enough to do one border?  Last night, I didn't have anything prepped so no stitching got done. What are your thoughts?

I do love how they really make the border so much more interesting!  There are forty flowers to be done and of course the corners won't be finished until the top gets assembled. I feel like I have really come along way on this quilt, but there is a still a long way to go.  So, I might as well spend time doing the prep work which is very much like preparing the soil in my garden, not fun but a very important step.  Then it is just a matter of enjoying  the applique process until they all get completed!

  1. Those flowers transfer a plain Jane border into a showpiece border! I love it!

    1. Thanks Kathy! I keep saying to myself, I can't believe you are working on the borders. It will be a top someday soon, that is if you keep working on it! The best is yet to come the hand quilting is like the carrot on the stick in front of the race horse! LOL

  2. I always get distracted if I try to do all the prep work - but then I am glad to have it when I sit to watch tv

  4. I like to prep everything at one time so I don't have to keep going back and forth. And I can put the fabrics away that I am done with.

    1. I think that is probably the best way! The one thing I don't like about applique is the prep work! But once I get started it really isn't that bad!

  7. I hate the prep work but having things ready to go really gets it done. Maybe prep enough for a whole side and then when you are 3/4 done... prep the next side. Lets you stitch and not run out? Good luck.

    1. That is a great idea! It is hard to keep all the pieces if you make too many, but your idea solves that! Kind of like leaders and enders but for applique!

  8. How pretty ! :)

I don't like prep work too much so I do a little at a time on things, which has worked thus far so I can certainly understand you not wanting to prep them all at once :)
