Santa #2

It's been another busy week here at my house.  But, I did enjoy some slow stitching in the evenings!  I finished the hand quilting on my trailing vines quilt.  However, the fabric I ordered for the binding has not arrived so it is on hold until that happens.  I guess I should work on the label this week so I can stitch it in place when I stitch the binding on.

I also started Santa #2 and made some great progress.  He is still in need of his trousers.  I am a little disappointed that I didn't stitch him on a darker fabric as the bow on the wreath doesn't really show.  So I think I will be playing with coffee/tea dying some aida in the future.

Since I am no longer hand quilting I thought I would start another project to enjoy in the evenings.  I joined a SAL that is offered at Linen and Threads.  It's a Quaker inspired piece that really caught my eye.  It started in January so I have some catching up to do.   I don't think that will be a problem since it really is a fun piece.  It incorporates initials in the stitching but I am going to wait till the rest is stitched to decide what initials I want to use, or if I want to do something different.  Choosing a color for a project can be difficult for me, so I chose brown one of my favorite colors. I got a good start on January's chart and am so glad I started this one!

  1. Santa is looking great. Could you backstitch around the wreath? The quaker project looks fabulous in brown.

  2. Santa is looking great. Why don't you add some back-stitching around the bow to make it stand out a little more. I was debating starting that SAL also, but I know I have way too many projects right now. I am printing the pages though for the "future".

    1. I am so glad to hear your idea, that sure would help I think! Well, I am so glad that I have slowed down on my quilting and allowed my self to do some other things I enjoy. Hopefully next year I will add some knitting back into the mix

    1. Yes I sure hope the fabric I purchased online for the binding will work when it arrives. It's always a gamble. I went with a solid pink that looked very close so I sure hope so.

  5. I keep seeing that SAL pop up, and I have started collecting the patterns, but I'm resisting starting as I don't really have a spot for it in my rotation at this time. Yours looks great with that warm brown.

    1. Yes, time is necessary and I don't like to get too many things started. I'm slowing down on my quilting a bit to enjoy some other crafts.

  6. Santa is lovely! I started the linen and thread challenge today, I think I'm going to enjoy this one very much. I find choosing colours the hardest part. Your brown looks really nice though and it lets the pattern speak for itself!

    1. Oh that's awesome I will look forward to seeing yours as we progress. I really love stitching this pattern so far. Not sure I will keep up, but each month's patterns seem to be resonable for the one month we have to do them! I figured brown would look very traditional. I joined the facebook group and many are using varigated threads and I finally decided I just really love the contrast of one color, it seems to let the design shine a bit more.

  7. Yes, Santa really does need his trousers, can't have him scaring anyone, can you!

  8. You are going to town on your cross stitching. I like the first commenter's, Sue, suggestion of backstitching the wreath to give more contrast. Santa is still looking good despite being pantless.

    1. The Quaker Cross stitch is a lot of fun! Making it one color of thread makes it less complicated too!

  10. I used to cross stitch on linen and made a couple pulled thread pieces with it too... my mother has 1 and the other got destoyed in a house fire... Your Santa is lovely and I bet in person that ribbon shows... maybe you could outline with a single thread of a darker color to make it show a bit better though... just a thought! lol
The SAL sounds awesome ... I can't see to cross stitch or concentrate well enough either... but maybe someday I will do something little to celebrate me and my honey .. who knows :)
Have a wonderful week and thanks for sharing your cross stitch while you are now on sabatical of hand quilting! lol Kathi

    1. Thanks Kathi for the tip others had the same feedback, not sure why it didn't pop into my head. I haven't crossstitched in years so I feel like a newbie again.
