On the right trail!

I know as quilters we are always having to make decisions.  I think one of the hardest decisions is what our next endeavor will be. There are a lot of factors that go into making that decision.  Since I quilt for my enjoyment, I am always looking for that perfect next quilt pattern. I guess that comes from knowing there is no way one can make every quilt their heart desires.  I do know the process of making that quilt really comes into play.  So often I see quilters jump into a project and find themselves losing interest in the project.  I find not enjoying the process is probably the biggest culprit.

Robert Frost poem The Road Not Taken came to mind.  It really explains how I feel when choosing my next pattern.  I tend to always take the road less traveled. I stopped buying quilt magazines when they were all about "Quick" quilts.  It's not about "Quick" for me!  I love the process and simple shapes and if they come from nature, count me in.

So while some think that making this quilt would get quite boring, for me it is the perfect choice.  I love applique and playing with scraps.  I love that a simple design taken from nature used over and over has the ability to turn into something so grand.  I have only been working on this quilt for a week, but I am very happy with my choice.  So glad that I followed my heart and I have no regret on the trail I chose.  If you like to slow stitch, I hope you will join us over at Slow Stitching Sunday and share the trail you have chosen.

  8. You are one smart lady! I love that poem and it is so true. I try to remember to enjoy the little things each day - beautiful clouds, pretty butterfly's and all the little things in life. You made a great choice on a fun quilt. Enjoy stitching those leaves.

  9. This is a great post. I am often asked who I am making my current craft for. Often I have an answer, but sometimes I am just crafting because I want to. My next quilt is just because I bought a jelly roll that I loved. Enjoy your stitching. I love that vine of leaves.

    1. I have been known to make a few quilts for special family members and if someone really shows interest in my quilts they may end up owning it but I do basically quilt for the pure joy of stitching.

  10. I agree with you...quilt magazines are all about quick quilts. I sometimes wonder how these quilts are chosen for the magazines. Scraps are wonderful. A leisurely walk down a trail in Fall is beautiful as is piecing a quilt one patch or one applique at a time!!

    1. I think they like to promote quick as it results in more sales for the industry. I can understand that and today's women also juggle careers, so it is nice that they can still feel like they could tackle making a quilt.

    1. Susan Mc Cord was really a genius considering she lived on a farm and figured out in a very creative way to use her bits of fabrics.

    1. Thanks Janet! I was bit concerned that my little marks would be enough to keep me on track with the overall shape of the branches. I hate fretting over exact placment and hate to get to up tight about my projects.

  16. The only quilt magazine subscription I have kept is the primitive one. Too much was looking all the same to me in other quilt magazines. Repeat patterns just in different fabrics.
