Time for some slow stitches!

My last post made me feel better about my progress.  So this Sunday, my Viking is going to get  the day off and I plan to spend some time hand piecing my TATW.   I made a lot of progress on my 16 patches yesterday.   I have 90 blocks completed out of the my goal of 144.

TATW has been a bit neglected. It deserves some attention! Since we are getting more rain today, I thought it would be a good day to sit and enjoy some slow stitching.  I will be linking up with Kathy's blog to see what others are slow stitching.   I am really excited to get row 21 complete as row 22 will add a green polka dot fabric.   Hopefully the polka dots will cheer up this dreary day.  As you can see in the picture below of the street in front of my house I almost could pretend I lived in Venice where the streets are water!

  1. oh that's too much rain. Here for 2 days we have been forecasted for rain but nothing but a small shower came along. So I better go water everything before I think about stitching. Enjoy your stitching today :)

    1. We have had drought conditions for several years here! Last year we finally started getting some rain. This year we have had inches and inches. It seems to be feast or famine.

  2. We are expecting rain here also. Right now it is sunny though. TATW is looking great and that polka dot fabric will really pop. Enjoy your stitching.

    1. I agree the polka dot is going to add a lot. I love how each round really changes the look of this quilt. I have been adding them depending how much of the fabric I have left as it is way to use the ugly left over pieces in my stash. A very fun project for sure

    1. Looking forward to the slow stitching although I am learning to enjoy chain piecing by machine. It sure speeds things up!

  4. I think it is supposed to be dry most of the week so that is great - I do hope our yards will dry out soon! I see you have a circle cutting mat but it looks homemade? how did you do that?

    1. Yeah from wet to hot and humid should be fun! I had an old mat that I just cut to fit an old plastic lazy susan from my kitchen. Then I glued it in place. It is nice to use on my lap when I want to mark pieces, hold my supplies like a tray, and to cut around small templates as I can turn it as I go.

  5. The colors of you TATW are beautiful! How large are you going to make it? We have had rain off and on for a few weeks now. This weekend was nice and warm, but new storms are coming this week.

  6. It takes longer and longer to add each row to your TATW quilt! I love the green dotty fabric. Good progress on the nine patches too!

    1. Yes it does and I am not sure how big this will get. Maybe a long term project just to enjoy the stitching and use some left over fabrics.

    1. We just came out of a drought so I understand your concern. I think it is better to have a bit too much than a long dry spell. We had large trees in our area die and the 108 degree days were really drying things out. Then we had to worry about fires. Hope you get some rain soon

  8. Wow, I love your TATW! And that's a whole heck of a lot of rain in your street. We're getting a break from the rain, but it's cold and cloudy. :-( It'll feel good crawling under my quilt to stitch in a few minutes.

  10. TATW is in my future. Would love to use stash. How much yardage are you using per round now? Love it!!!

    1. I am using 2 inch squares so I figure you can cut 20 easily out one width of fabric. I m on row 23 so you need 92 squares so lets round up to 5 strips each 2 inches wide. On some of the rows if I had two similar colors I mixed the two in one round to have enough

  11. Your TATW is coming along really well. I need to finish the green one and then add a couple of rows to my 2 inch one - yellow is my next row. Too many projects... not enough time. Hope you have a boat handy with all that rain.

    1. I think we will have a drier rest of the week at least I hope so. I should have mowed Friday before the rain may be a few days before we can get into the yard with the mower. I know what you mean I am attacking them one by one but now I am getting the urge to start new projects

  12. I'm anxious to see what you are going to do with your little postage stamp 16 patches. I have a pile of postage stamp blocks but not sure what to do with them yet. TATW is looking good. Rain, rain, go away...little Carla wants to play!

    1. I am taking inspiration from a Liz Porter quilt and going to set them in a zig zag pattern. Liz used ohio stars but I am substituing the 16 patches

  16. Mindless quilting is so theraputic on rainy days. I love your idea, and agree that when you sum up all your past work in a blogpost, it somehow seems like you got more done!

Keep plugging away at those blocks, and I hope it goes quickly.

  17. I love scrappy TATW quilts Carla, but to do one by hand is quite an enterprise! It's going to be gorgeous, especially when you get that lime green on there :*)
