Looking forward to a few days of sunshine beginning today. It has been so gray and wet so far this spring, it will be so nice to have some warmer sunny days. I set a goal of getting my plaid log cabin blocks this week. I had 34 completed last week and I ended up with enough fabric to make a total of 81. Forty-seven are being chain pieced this week. I generally get bored when chain piecing but these blocks are simple and as long as I pay attention and sew straight I am getting real good results. I pre-cut the logs so that with each log I could check my accuracy. Well, here they are all 81 blocks completed Now I just need to figure out how I want to set them.
It makes me wonder if I should just stick to squares and rectangles when I piece. LOL Afterall, who needs HST's and diamonds??????? Oh yeah the two quilts that have been on my to do list for years Tree of Life and Lone Star. Do you have a quilt pattern that you just know you have to make someday?

your log cabin blocks are really nice with those plaids, looking forward to seeing how you arrange them. I will be doing a log cabin too for the Winter Wonderland quilt - log blocks all the way around the embroidery blocks - one day!

ReplyDeleteWell done! That's a good stack of blocks - I look forward to seeing how you set them. I have big plans for a 2 color Feathered Star quilt. I've been thinking about it for years and a couple weeks ago I bought a book with feathered star block patterns... I'm getting closer - lol!

ReplyDeleteI do...I do...I need hsts and diamonds and curves, oh my! ! I like squares and rectangles (my quickies) for easy, mindless, quick stress relief quilting and a quick sense of accomplishment. And I need my hsts and diamonds and curves for a real challenge (my challengers) and a quilt with many learning experiences.
And, unfortunately (or maybe fortunately?), most of the quilts I want to make someday have one block made already and are just waiting for the rest of the blocks to join them. I won't give you a count of those blocks lest I be judged crazy.
I made some three inch log cabin blocks this past weekend. I paper pieced them so they would be accurate. You did well with the pre-cut to size strips. I like making bigger log cabin blocks that method.

ReplyDeleteOh, you are to the fun stage of playing to see how to set it! I can't wait to see what you come up with. I have a list on my project page of 'someday quilts'. Unfortunately, curves are involved in a couple of them which is why it is still on there. At least I am knocking off the dresden plate and hunters star this year! Maybe someday the drunkards path will get made? Enjoy the sunshine.
