I have so many projects going these days it is hard sometimes to know which one to work on. Have any of you listened to Dave Ramsey on the radio. He is all about getting rid of debt and his talk of the debt snowball. Basically you attack the smallest debt first and soon you will feel like you are rolling like a snowball down that mountain. LOL Well, I don't know if we as quilters work that way. For me it more about what I feel like doing that day. The technique that most appeals to me at the time. But sometimes we get close to finishing and we put the project aside. That is what has happened to my Go With The Flow quilt. I spent a few minutes here and there in 2014 to string piece the parts to this block and just needed to sew the strips together to form the blocks.
Each block just needs 5 strips sewn together! |
They sew up pretty quickly |
I am on a roll |
Then I squared them up to 10 inches |
The goal today is to get the rest pressed and trimmed |
I love string piecing no worry about matching seams etc. But I must admit I was a bit worried about sewing the blocks together with all those seams. All that worry for nothing, With string piecing there is a lot of pressing involved, this really made sewing the strips together quite enjoyable with the use of my handy stiletto. Now hopefully I can find the perfect solid to frame these blocks so it will become a top!
looks like you sure used up some scraps in this one.
ReplyDeleteBut I still have two paper grocery bags full. It seem to make a dent!
DeleteI can't wait to see that quilt finished, Carla.
ReplyDeleteI can't decide on what color I want to use! I need to do some serious thinking!
DeleteHow I love those scrappy quilts! And I am eager to see what solid color you will choose to frame the blocks.
ReplyDeleteMe too, scrappy quilts are the best! I think I am leaning toward a brown or gold! We shall see!
DeleteThat looks like great fun! I am the same way in picking something that interests me every day, so sometimes projects get lost or forgotten for a time. Glad this one is back :)
ReplyDeleteI really like working this way. It keeps things interesting and it becomes more about the process than the quilt. Your slow stitching Sunday project has me itching to do some embroidery. I think I might have an idea!
DeleteYou work much the same way I do.:) Sometimes it does feel like there are a lot of quilt tops coming together all at once, but never the actual completed quilts! lol This looks to be a great quilt for you!
ReplyDeleteYeah it can be feast or famine here. I really have enjoyed coming up with quilts from my stash. But I am going to need to get some yardage to finish this one. I know the right color will hit me when I see it!
DeleteI really, really, really love those blocks!!! Just must make some!
ReplyDeleteI really love to string piece! No fretting about lining things up just choosing a fabric and sewing it on! It doesn't get better than that!
DeleteI tend to pick projects by mood as well..... good thing I have a ton of projects to choose from =) I love making blocks but hate the part of sewing rows together... that is where all mine get stuck in limbo.
ReplyDeleteI used to hate it, but my piecing is improving and that helps! But sometimes on large quilts it can be a lot to handle and wears me out!
DeleteI LOVE your blog...Please tell me how you learned to needle turn applique? Also, is your PICKLE DISH quilt appliqued on or curved seams with machine? Thanks so much for sharing your talents and knowledge with us. LOVED your Baltimore Garden quilt also...
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for stopping by! I learned to needleturn applique by watchig Piece O Cake Designs videos. Becky' does a really good job explaining it and then it take a lot of practice. I started out doing a wall hanging with large flowers and a vase. Then came my hawaiian quilt large gentle curves. It is amazing how your skills improve with each quilt. It can be very frustrating when you start. But I would watch her videos over and over and really listen to what she says. But it is all about practice ! As for the pickle dish it is paper pieced a pattern out of a Kaffe Fassett book Quilt Romance Again thanks for stopping by and I hope I inspire you to give needleturn a try.
DeleteI used to live in Nashville... where Dave Ramsey started with the "Money Game" and we successfully used his system... however I LOVE LOVE LOVE your idea of doing that with our quilting projects too... doing the things we don't care for to get to the things we love would be how it would work for me... I don't like piecing but I love the hand quilting afterward... I don't love to bind but I do it to be able to gift my prize! lol So now I will channel my inner Dave Ramsey and think of you when I need to head into the sewing machine to piece! lol Thanks for a great post! Love how you strip piece too.. I think I could do that!!! Kathi
ReplyDeleteI have never enjoyed making the same block over and over to make a quilt top. But i have found I can make a block or two a week and just save them up till I enough to make a top. I also love to do paper piecing and string piecing. I love sewing on lines I guess and you get really spectacular blocks.
Deletewhat great great scrap blocks! I love them and it looks like they are fun to make!
ReplyDeleteThey really are fun! I tend to enjoy applique more than piecing, so these paper foundation blocks fit my bill. I just love adding each scrap and then pressing to see how they look next to each other. Then trimming up the block makes them really shine.
DeleteThis looks like a really fun project--can't wait to see it all come together. I have a lot of debt to work on too--lol!
ReplyDeleteI sure hope I find the right color to pair up with these, it will be fun hunting anyway
DeleteLove these blocks! This will be a great quilt!
ReplyDeleteThanks! You can't go wrong sewing scraps together!
