Ready to start!

It has been a bit of  a hectic week.  The part for my sewing machine arrived on Thursday and my husband Tom reassembled it and it is back in working order. But, things around the house have been calling my name, so I didn't get much done this week.  I did finish another block on my Baltimore Garden.

So this morning, I have pulled out and pressed some yellows to start my wonky star for June.  I am a bit worried about not having enough contrast but sometimes those are the very blocks that make a great scrappy quilt. So I will march forward.

I entered Christmas Journey several weeks ago into the Blogger's Quilt Festival hosted by Amy's Creative Side.

Although,  it didn't win the applique category, I was chosen as a winner for leaving a post and participating.  It arrived yesterday afternoon.  I just have to share a photo of the beautiful Aurifil thread Aren't the colors just wonderful. I am looking forward to using them!

    1. Yes, I have splurged and used aurifil thread to hand quilt a quilt, but would never splurge on a box of large spools in all these lovely colors. I have a lot of stitching to do!

  2. The Baltimore Garden blocks (I peeked at the previous entry, too) are amazing - just beautiful!

    1. Thanks Angie! Baltimore Garden brings my love for gardening and quilting together. They are challenging blocks for me, and I continue to learn with each one.

  3. Congratulations on your win Carla! Although I have to say, I can't imagine that wonderful quilt not winning all on its own! There must have been some awesome quilts in that category if yours didn't win.

  4. I agree Donna, I didn't realize I had won anything till Amy email me. I just read the winners of each category. I am thrilled with all the wonderful colors and look forward to using the threads.

  5. Congratulations in the win! Love those threads!

Love that block! I think each new one you show is more beautiful than the one you showed previously, if that's possible!

    And I love your yellows!

    1. Thanks Kathy, hard to believe I only have five more to do, although that will take some time. I was hoping to finish them this summer, we will see. Really looking forward to playing with the threads.

  7. Congratulations on your new thread! I say use what you have for your block. That is the fundamental principle of the scrap challenge.

    1. I have had some wonderful results just letting things fall as they may. My only rule for scrap quilting is not using the same fabrics next to each other. Sometimes the brightest or ugliest fabric really adds the bit of sparkle that makes a great scrap quilt shine.

  9. Christmas Journey is exquisite and should be entered into a real quilt show where it can be viewed and appreciated in person. It is AQS (American Quilters Society) worthy. The threads are very pretty.

    1. Thanks so much Melinda. It was a stunner with pretty Kaffe Fassett fabrics. I can't imagine being a judge at a quilt show, it would be so hard to pick a winner.

    1. Yes fine thread is lovely to work with. I know with my applique I use Masterpiece and I don't have to struggle with knots. Good quality fabrics make a difference also! Thanks for you kind words.

  13. That is great that you won the thread, Carla! :) I don't even see that thread in the local JoAnn Fabrics store but I do see a lot of quilters mention it. Such pretty colors and a nice selection.
I could look at Christmas Journey once a week and never tire of it and seeing your new applique come along is fun :) Your red & green quilt and another person's quilt is what made me take the plunge and start one of my own. I was recently looking through some library books of antique quilts and realized that in the end, it's always the red / green / cheddar ones that are my favorites.

    1. Oh yeah red and green and cheddar, there is just no beating it! It warms my heart to know that I inspired you to try one of your own. I blog for that reason, others have inspired me and it is so wonderful to know that I have inspired a few others.
