Block # 18 Baltimore Garden

It seems I haven't gotten much done this week.  I have been focused on some household projects that needed to be completed. Of course, those projects use most of my energy and there is little left for my applique.  I did get a start on Block #18.  It is another vase block, and I love doing those.  There are quite a few applique stitches that need to be made to complete one.

It is a rainy day here, and according to the weatherman this will be a wet week, so maybe I can focus on my applique.  Sometimes when too many things get on my mind, I have trouble with relaxing and enjoying my craft.  Does that happen to you?  I will be linking over to Kathy's blog to see what others are slow stitching. It always gives me inspiration. Kathy also mentioned some podcasts that she like to listen to while stitching. That may help keep me focused.

  1. when they say bad things coming I find it hard to concentrate on anything but the weather! it looks like your part of the state has been getting rain this morning while we have not been getting anything but dark skies - I think late afternoon for us

    1. Looks like it could be a wet week for us. Yes we got a thunder storm early this am, very loud thunder! I am hoping to get some great sewing time in this week. Maybe start marking my next quilt top, I was hoping to try to do some hand quilting thru the summer this year since I got my new hoop for Christmas

  2. Yes... too much on your mind makes it hard to settle and concentrate, but that's when I feel I need it the most! Enjoy your stitching today!

    1. Oh, I so agree, that is when I need it most also. Sometimes if I can just sit down and start I allow myself an hour without feeling to guilty!. LOL

  3. That vase looks complicated ! :) Maybe this is just how women's brains work. I had to laugh because I do the same thing to myself. For instance, you've been working on household projects so now you feel as if you haven't gotten much done in the way of sewing. Now, if you sewed alot this week, I imagine that you'd feel a bit guilty about other things that did not get done? I do this to myself constantly.

    1. I agree we are able to multi-task better than men, so therefore we are always thinking about how to get it all done. Men on the other hand tend to do what ever is on their mind at that moment. I think that is why my husband can nap so easily. LOL

  4. Good luck getting some stitching done on that pretty vase block. Rainy here too for the next few days so don't know when I'm ever going to get the garden in. If I have too many things on my mind it is usually caused by stress at work so use stitching time to clear out the mind and think of absolutely nothing!

    1. I need my sunshine too, but it is our time for rain. Since we have had drought conditions for three years I am eager for the rain, but a day of sunshine sprinkled in really helps my attitude.

  6. Yes, when too many things to do and items on my mind, It is hard to relax and sew. Actually, I feel guilty. We must keep on though as it can be relaxing. You are doing well on vase block.

    1. Thanks for the encouragement, I agree my stitching soothes me and I could turn into a grouchy old woman without it!

  8. A lovely start to this block Carla - hope you can keep focused :) I like to get other things 'out of the way' before sewing. Otherwise I make too many mistakes if I rush.

  9. What a pretty start to that block! I have trouble, too with projects that take up so much energy that there isn't much left for quilting ... same thing whenever I have something weighing on my heart (like I have now) ... it makes it difficult to focus on stitching. I'm hoping that you'll find the energy and focus this week to be able to get some work done on your applique.

    1. Hopefully, we are back to normal when it comes to rain. We have had drought conditions for three years, not fun and very scary at times. I hope you get some rain soon!
