It seems I haven’t gotten off to a good start, I guess I have too many irons in the fire. I have gone back to work on my Baltimore Garden Quilt and it has been getting a lot of my attention. So yesterday I pulled out my purple and started making parts for my pickle dish blocks. I have been working on one block a week in the past few months. So I thought a different approach may speed things up. I decided to make all the parts and then assemble the blocks all at once. I find that working this way seems to speed things up a bit, but we will see. So this is what I got done this week.

RSC2014 April's Color is Purple

Pretty! I wondered how you made those pickles! I too seem to have one too many fires burning right now - I've not played with purple properly yet.
ReplyDeleteSomehow they will get done. My garden is calling also, so I just need to set some time aside to get them made.
Deletesometimes I find I have too many projects going! some get neglected for awhile - they always get done though.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I have put my hexies and my cogwheel blocks aside for now. I have a goal to finish my applique blocks this summer so they are my priority. I only have eight more to go, so there should be plenty of time to do my four blocks for RSC14. The nice weather is a big factor also, just have to enjoy the sunshine while we can.
DeleteHope your new assembly method speeds up the process for you. I don't have much purple in my stash either.
ReplyDeleteIt always seems to help. I spend less time trying to remember how to assemble the block and the paper piecing goes faster when I get in a rhythm of doing it.
DeleteI know a quilt designer that says a bit of purple belongs in all her quilts. I am not sure as to what her reasoning is. For me, it depends on what shade of purple it is before I will put it in a quilt.
ReplyDeleteI am a lot braver than I used to be about adding things that I normally wouldn't. I am usually pleased after I do.
DeleteLove all your purple projects!
ReplyDeleteThanks Billie Bee
DeleteVery pretty mini quilts. I don't have lots of purple either. I haven't had time to do teal or purple. Too many irons in the fire.
ReplyDeleteKnow that feeling, It is best to back off and do what pleases you. Otherwise it becomes no fun!
DeleteThat purple / black combo is very striking! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Deb
DeleteI like to work in "batches" as well. It depends on the project as to how well that approach works. Hope it makes things faster for you. Love your pickle dish blocks.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kate!
DeleteOnce again...I love seeing your pickle dishes.
ReplyDeleteI love working on a color a month and the pace of making the three blocks a month. It is like each month is it's own little project and at the end of the year I will have a quilt. Looking forward to hand quilting this one.
DeleteThey're looking great!
ReplyDeleteThanks Katie
DeleteI didn't know those pickles were paper pieced. They look great.
ReplyDeleteYes they are! I have come to love paper piecing, something I thought I would never say.
