More Blue!

Joining  Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2014 has really motivated me to get some things done.  I completed the three blue blocks for my pickle dish challenge quilt.  But, being a typical quilter ,I also have other projects on the go, so this week, I pulled out the  blue hexies in my EPP box and made all of these flowers.

I just loved the reverse starburst  block that Kat featured on her blog.  Her tutorial was great and I decided I could use some more scraps and easily make one more block per month.

Looks like the end of the year is going to be very colorful when I got to assemble these blocks into  quilts.  Making more quilt tops means  I need to keep on track with my hand quilting. My goal is to hand quilting  three quilts this year!   Number one,  my thousand pyramid,  was finished this week.  Now to get number two marked, sandwiched and into the hoop.

    1. Thanks, I live for finishes and this is one has been so much fun to work on. The fabrics the simplicity of a one shape quilt and the quilting design all came together. It is definitely a keeper.

    1. They are fun aren't they! I love having them around to work on here and there. They also make a dreary winter day much brighter!

  4. I'm glad to see others have a hard time just working on one quilt at at time - in fact I know very few of us that only work on one! I too want to hand quilt 3 this year but don't know if I will - I will try my hardest.

    1. Luckily the first two will be quilted with a bigger stitch, and the largest one will come this fall and measure 80x 80 so I am hoping this is doable.

  5. I love your thousand pyramid quilt! Congrats on the finish. Hexies with that color center just yell happy to me. Love them. That white star in the middle is so cute... I loved watching it last year. This is very dangerous...... too many great projects being worked on and I want to make ALL of them!

    1. Thanks Deb! I am loving that cheddar center also! So bright and rich in color. I agree about this being dangerous! Two more quilts started and I didn't even know that it happened!

  6. Hand quilting three? Good for you. Hand quilting always looks so nice and soft. I haven't done any in years...

    1. It's pretty much the only way I quilt. I have done a few baby quilts on machine, but that method is much too stressful. I hope to keep practicing and am learning to slow the speed on my machine and I find it more enjoyable and less stressful!

    1. Yeah, when I saw Kat's tutorial, I knew I had to make this for a granddaughter. She will love the colors. I hand quilt most days. I am hoping with my new hoop I could even quilt some during the summer, Time will tell.

  10. First off I think your little hexies are great - what size are they? They look quite small, and I think your goal of three hand quilted quilts is admirable - I just couldn't manage that.

    1. The hexies measure one inch on each side. As for quilting three quilts, two will be big stitched with perle cotton. The third is the largest and will probably take 3-4 months.

  11. Sweet hexies! I need to try one one day.
Love, love, LOVE your pyramid quilt. I bought the template last year and started making string pyramids during the RSC in hopes I could make a scrappy pyramid quilt one day. At the rate I'm going, it will take several years. haha.

    1. Well, at least you have started. I think a great way to make blocks is a few here or there, less boring than just making a whole top. I guess that is why I love the scrappy ones the best. I find piecing the hardest part of making a quilt.

  19. Like everyone before me...I love the hexies with the cheddar. Do you know what you will do with them? The Thousand Pyramids is gorgeous. You have definitely inspired me to try my hand at hand quilting. My last attempt looked like I basted the quilt so it's still sitting there unfinished.

    1. The hexies are going to be the start of a medallion quilt. It is getting designed as I go, so I don't really know where it is going. I plan to add an applique block to the center, but for now these will be the frame for that applique block. I have never done this kind of quilt before sort of a self done round robin, but just wanted something different and to challenge my creativity and math skills.

  20. That's a lot of hand quilting... But with one down it seems doable. Your blocks look wonderful!

    1. I agree, the second one will be done with perle cotton also. The one top I will quilt this fall is already made, but it is a bit larger at 80x80 and will have more quilting on it but I should be able to complete it by Christmas if I start in Setember when the weather cools down.

    1. I agree, and the blocks are larger and easy to do, and I think a quilt done in rainbow colors will be perfect for my granddaughter.
