Gotta love those finishes!

My thousand pyramid quilt is a conglomeration of all things I love about quilts. I collected these fabrics over a couple of years, These tones are my favorites! It's scrappy!  The backing is a toile fabric and the quilting design is simple yet elegant.  It is bordered with black and has a wonderful cable done in a playful manner.  My favorite part is the perle cotton #16 I used to hand quilt it dances nicely with the fabrics and straight lines of the triangles that make up this quilt.

A bit breezy today as a cool front approaches

  Cable design on border
black and white toile on the backing

I think I have a found new place to take quilt photos!

    1. Thanks Karen, I called it Conglomerate I took my favorite things I like about quilts and put them all in one quilt. Not sure the toile backing works for some but it did for me!

  2. It's wonderful Carla. You're very clever to do that wine glass design, and the cables on the border. They both look great. I'm using Perle 8 to hand quilt at the moment and loving the effect it gives.

    1. I love all over designs on busy fabrics. The perle as you know still allows you to see those stitches. Makes quilting go faster and so much fun! Thanks for stopping by!

    1. I collected little bits of all these fabrics over a year. If I saw something that was in a tone and pattern I liked I got it. I also used some of my favorites from my stash. I love taking pics of quilts outside, today was a bit windy, but I managed. The lighting is so much better. Thanks Hilda for stopping by.

    1. Thanks Karen! This is not a typical thousand pyramid quilt, in that triangles are sewn together, but rather by making blocks and then assembling those blocks.

    1. Thanks Kathy! My stitches are not perfect, but I do enjoy the process and have learned not to sweat the small stuff and just enjoy. This quilt, I call conglomerate, because I used colors, fabric, and designs that always catch my eye, so why not put them all into one quilt.

  10. This is beautiful! I love the dark border, and all the colours you have used. The quilting is lovely also - so now I know what that design is called - Wine glass! I'd like to try that one, was it on a stencil? By the way, after you inspired me to have a go at RSC14 I'm catching up, have made 7 blocks so far and really enjoying it. Could I ask you what needle you use with the #16 perle thread? Thanks, Kate.

    1. Thank you Kate! I did a post on how I marked this quilt. http://budsgram.blogspot.com/2013/12/marking-thousand-pyramid.html I like marking with card board templates I make. I find that making them the size you needs is easier than trying to find the right stencil. Rubber cement and cereal box is all you need. I will do a post in the future on some great books that are geared to designs. As for needles, I buy the Fons and Porter utility needles that I get at Jo Ann's Fabrics. Piece o Cake Designs online sells the 16 presencia and they also recommend a couple of different needles to use with it.

  11. This is really inspiring! I love the fact that there is that interplay between the small triangles and large triangles - it adds such depth to the shading. Thanks for sharing, and congratulations on the finish!

  12. The hand quilting is amazing. I love the curved design in contrast with the straight sides of the triangles.

    1. I agree I call this quilt Conglomerate, because I took favorite colors, fabric, and quilting designs framed them in black. I used perle cotton #16 so that the design could hold it's own against the pattern of the block. All are pretty simple elements but put together they really work.
