I am in awe, you have done such a great job with your blocks, I have loved this quilt from the first time I saw it a few years ago. I really should follow your lead and persistence / dedication and make the blocks too beautiful thanks for the inspiration kathie
Your so kind Kathie! It truly is a fun project, if you love applique. The block start out a bit boring with all the green leaves but then they come alive when the stems and flowers are added. As I finish each block, I am pulling out the next background block, and looking forward to a whole new experience. I guess that is why I like applique better than I do piecing the same block or two over and over.
It does help to have a group of cheerleaders giving me inspiration! I decided to continue stitching on them thru the winter, but my evenings will be devoted to getting some quilts hand quilted, so I probably won't get as many done, but each one brings me closer to finishing.
Well the original quilt was made in the early 19th century. I am amazed at how they could come up with these patterns. They didn't have all the sewing notions and patterns that we have today. Maybe we would be more creative if we had to come up with original ideas. I think a lot about whoever it was that created this quilt originally. I hope somehow she knows that all these years later so many are still enjoying what she created.
And you certainly deserve to be celebrating! Those blocks are gorgeous! I'm looking forward to seeing how you put them together, once you get the others done. You're almost half way there.
It looks amazing Carla! I can't believe how quickly you have completed all these complex blocks! Thanks for linking up and hope you are enjoying your slow stitching!
Your Baltimore Garden blocks are so beautiful! Twelve blocks finished in just a few months is a huge accomplishment. You make me think I should pull out some applique again.
Thank you! I have seen this quilt done in many ways, but I love that traditional red and green. I ordered all the fabric online, so I was so pleased when they all worked together as I had hoped! Thank you for stopping by your kind words are appreciated!
Thank you for your kind words and for stopping by. I have stopped making blocks for the winter and turned to my hand quilting, but as soon as the weather warms again I hope to complete the other half of the blocks. This definitely is a once in a lifetime quilt, but I am really enjoying the journey!
