Trapunto Complete!

I completed the trapunto on Amish Ice Cream Social! I am so glad that I over came my fear of trying this technique. But, since I had put all the work into hand quilting these four feathered wreaths, I did think they needed to be appreciated. It really made such a difference in even knowing that they were there. I use yarn and a darning needle to fill the feathers from the back of the quilt. My only concern was the holes that were created by the large needle. I kept reminding myself that since I was using a darning needle it was not harming the strands but spreading them apart. So I plugged along, hoping I had not damaged a quilt that had taken a lot of hours to make. So last night, I threw it in the wash and was so pleased as there is not a trace of where the needle had made holes as I pulled the yarn thru the fabric!

  2. Thanks Joana! I just used acrylic yarn found at any big box store. I watched Tim's video and visited Quiltsalott's post on trapunto. She also uses acrylic yarn so I decided to give it a go!

  4. Isn't that great?! And so nice to hear the quilt didn't suffer any damage - a good wash seems to put threads/fabric back in place nicely. It looks wonderful - one of my favourites in blogland!

  5. Oh Carla, you have certainly out done yourself with this quilt. You are such an inspiration to try other avenues to bring a quilt to life. That is what I like about this group everyone shares their ideas & how to's. Thanks for sharing this.

    1. Thanks Donna, I have always like learning new things, and am definitely not one that needs to turn out a new quilt once a month, I much prefer to give each quilt my best effort!

    1. Thanks Billie Bee! Now if I could just find the patience to make hexi's. I started some and don't like the whip stitch, so I am may drag them out this month for a change of pace and try doing them with a ladder stitch. Thanks for being an inspiration!

  13. LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT. So simple but not. What color thread did you use to quilt it?
Pistachio and chocolate are my favorite gelati combinations.

  14. Good way to put it, simple but not! I love simple but not quilts, and am so glad that I just dove in and kept adding. I did agonize a bit over thread color and Pepper Cory suggested just auditioning all different colors. I got out a thread box I inherited from my husband's grandmother and started spooling out some threads. I chose an electric blue, and it really works, would have never came up with it on my own. Love quilting for that, there is always so much to learn and try!

  16. The trapunto has been more than worth the effort, it is beautiful! The whole quilt is gorgeous. A couple of posts down where you show the wreath before the trapunto is added and then after....it's amazing the difference it makes. You have convinced me to have a go at machine trapunto sometime soon, I have a Longarm Quilting Machine so I won't be quilting by hand. Beautiful!!
