I have completed my four dollar flea market find. It has wool batting so it will be a nice cozy little lap quilt. I really love it’s scrappy look, and has taught me anything goes when making a scappy quilt. The blue background seems to pull everything together and makes it work. There is even a christmas print in it. I have learned over the years that the thing I like about antique quilts is often times they don’t have a border. With fall on it’s way, I am sure this little quilt will come in handy.

DeleteIt's beautiful, Carla! I'm so glad to see it at last. I have a bowtie quilt pieced by my great-grandmother, and not only did everything go with it, but she was particularly concerned with the direction of the bow-ties either. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Joana, I don't have any quilts from my family. My mom was a knitter being from Europe. I throughly enjoyed quilting this one, because it was made up of fabrics from another decade.

ReplyDeleteDo you use wool batting because it is easier to needle? I've used it for my last few hand quilting projects. I like how it needles, shows the stitches and is so warm. Not as crazy about how it drapes.
Maureen, thank you for your comments. Yes, I use wool for several reasons, it needles like butter as they say,and it is warm, afterall we like to cuddle up in a quilt for warmth. I agree with you about the draping, so I do also use Quilter's Dream cotton. It will give you that old fashion antique quilt feeling and has the weight to give a good drape.
