Yes! Machine Quilted

I faced a fear I had and decided to try machine quilting again.  A bad experience many years ago turned me to hand quilting all my quilts.  For starters,  I took a walking foot machine quilting class on Craftsy with Jacquie  Gering.  She opened my eyes to a lot possibilities!  This is my second attempt and I decided to try spiral quilting.  Oh what fun!  No stopping just continuous stitching!  Now this I can enjoy!!!
This quilt was a great way to use some scraps I had

I love the wonderful texture! These lines are one half inch apart!
I added a scrappy binding to finish it off! I also used a pieced back which I don't do when hand quilting!

I am so glad I gave machine quilting another try!  I see doing more of it in the future!  I know there are some who exclusively hand quilt and others who exclusively machine quilt.  Having done both, I realize they both take skill and practice. I am so proud that I had a successful experience and am entering this quilt to the home machine quilted category at the wonderful Quilt Festival that Amy over at Amy's Creative Side is so graciously hosting! Come join us and vote for your favorites in each category!

    1. I love the class and had to refer back to it before I started the spiral. Then a fellow blogger gave me a tip to use my open toe foot to finish off the center as you start at about four inches and I really didn't like the poof in the center.

  3. You should be very proud indeed ! I hand quilt but have done a wee bit of machine quilting here and there and I do know that it is not easy ! And these spirals are gorgeous ...the quilt's a work of art, both in piecing and quilting :)

    1. Deb you are so right they both take talent and that comes from practice. I am sure I will never get into FMQing but this walking foot quilting is something I can tackle if I turn down the speed and take it slow.

  5. Those spirals are beautiful. I'll have to try that sometime on a crib quilt and see what happens. Your pattern is interesting too. It looks woven. Blessings, Gretchen

  8. Lovely job! So many seams make machine quilting the best option i think. Talk about being ambi-quilt-ous ;--)))) hugs, Julierose

    1. Love that ambi-quilt-ous!!!!!! Still think my hand quilting is dominate. LOL But your right is great for smaller projects with a lot of seams!

  9. You've encouraged me to reconsider trying machine quilting. I'm not a fan of stippling or meandering, but your quilting here has shown me that machine quilting can be easy and much more interesting than a "mere" stipple or meander. This is a fabulous quilt ... good luck!

    1. Thanks Kathy! I think it is great for smaller projects not sure I want to tackle anything large under the foot of a domestic machine. Besides you know how I enjoy hand quilting too!

  10. The machine quilting looks very good. I am not a creative person when it comes to machine quilting. More of a just get by. I do know it takes practice and that is a problem for me. I am anxious to get onto the next quilt.

    1. Not sure that FMQ will ever get conquered at my house but walking foot quilting will be tried again! It is great for smaller projects but I think I will stick with my love of hand quilting for the larger ones.

  17. This quilt is intriguing to me. I find myself looking and looking to try to figure out the order in which you sewed the pieces together. I'm partial to hand quilting but your machine quilting on this looks great. How good that you conquered the skill!

    1. I was stuck there too for a long time. Still won't machine stitch a large quilt but the smaller ones with a walking foot is doable. No FMQing in my future either.

  21. I purchased that class and thoroughly enjoyed it. Machine quilting, like most things, just takes practice. I particularly like the spiral quilting; it is fast, easy and very effective. I think for a quilt that is going to be used machine quilting is the way to go! You did a fabulous job and deserve a pat on the back!
