Fitting in a few stitches today!

Wow the year is really coming to it's end quickly!  Tom and I drove to Dallas/Fort Worth area to visit with our son and his family right before Christmas.  It was good to see everyone and visit.  We headed back home on Tuesday and my sister and her husband stopped by our place on Friday and left this morning as they headed to Texas.
So today, it will be nice to sit and stitch a bit

Simple But Not is coming along nicely.  As I look at the one block that is completely quilted, I feel the feathers are not quite as plump as I would like them to be. So once the quilt is completely quilted I will have to add some trapunto.

I really like the way it enhanced my string star quilt.  It is a bit labor intensive, but I think the extra time will really make all the difference to how happy I will be with the finished quilt.

Now back to the hoop!

    1. The trapunto on my string star was my first attempt. I use yarn and a darning needle. There are some who add extra layers but I really like the needle and yarn method for feathers.

    1. Those feathers really take some time, but I am so glad I have my hoop that I can turn. Otherwise I might end up a twisted knot!

    1. Each block is one quarter of the quilt. They measure 39 inches finished.

    1. Thanks Denise. I use a chunky acrylic yarn and a darning needle. Tim Latimer has a very good video on how it is done. The link is: http://timquilts.com/2013/03/26/trapunto-video/

  10. I use yarn and a darning needle too and works like a charm. I think adding some dimension to those feathers will may Simple But Not even more beautiful if that is possible. The gold background you've used really speaks to me! Happy New Year!

    1. I am glad that you agree! I agree the cheddar background really takes this quilt to another level. The original in the book was done with a white background which I liked but I wanted to do a cheddar quilt, so glad that I did.

  11. Your quilting is simply beautiful and I love the quilt too!
What kind of batting did you use. I've never done trapunto, so I'm looking forward to seeing how you do it!

    1. I am using Hobbs PolyDown, which I love to hand quilt. It is the only poly batting that I will use. Very similar to quilting wool, but not quite as warm, which is great since we live in the south.

  13. I actually really like the way the feathers look as is because I think they showcase the patchwork well. I have never done trapunto, but what you completed on your other quilt is beautiful.

    1. I use the same method that Tim Latimoer uses. Here is a link to a video he has on his blog.
