Throwback Thursday

This is one of my first quilting projects.  It was a thimbleberries pattern that was so much fun to make.  Lynette's instructions are great for beginning piecers.

It is so much fun to look back at past projects.  What  a wonderful way to reminisce about my quilting journey.

Look at that quilting!  If I remember right I didn't mark it I just eyeballed it.  I didn't even know that quilting the crosshatching on the bias is so much easier than on the straight of grain. I loved this pattern so much, that I made three more and they were gifted to family and a special friend. Yet even though my skills have increased, I pull this piece out and use it as a table topper on my dinning room table. It has become one of those beloved Christmas decorations that you pull out because it reminds you of the past, those special times with loved ones, it doesn't get better than that. Hope all of you are enjoying the season and pulling out those wonderful decorations that make Christmas special in your heart!

  1. Very pretty. It's fun to pull out those pieces from long ago and remember what was going on when you were quilting them or how you chose a particular fabric or a quilting design. Some of my earlier ones I wasn't smart enough to know to always use 100% cotton and I can really tell the difference when I look at some of those old fabrics compared to what I do now. But I like them anyway.

    1. It is fun! One of things I have learned over the years about myself is I love high contrast quilts with muted colors, that doesn't seem to change for me. I love two color quilts and not sure why but have only made one.

    1. Thanks Kathi! I made those a few years ago too! I want to try making some 3-d snowflakes also.

  3. It's lovely Carla and a simple wreath is something you'll never tire of. Don't worry about that quilting - adds a quirkiness that is very appealing!

    1. Hilda , how sweet, but you know you are right, quilters are too self critical. I was looking at the binding after I posted, it is way to wide and wonky. I flipped to the back to see the stitching and low and behold it was the backing just brought to the front. I guess I didn't know about binding at that point! LOL I do agree the traditional pattern will always be appealing.
