Green Pickledish!

IMG_0677-001

Rainy days make for great quilting time!  We had a slow drizzle for two days, so I took advantage to spend some time in the sewing room to get my RSC2014 blocks made.  This month’s color is green.  I have to say, green is definitely my favorite color.  As I was stitching them, I kept thinking about how last months blocks might look next to my new green blocks.  I had vowed not to lay them out together till the end of the year, but my love of color took over.  Soon I was looking for the box that is holding all my blocks.  So I proceeded to lay them out on my sewing room floor.
What a pleasant surprise!  All those wonderful colors, it’s as if I am out in my flower garden.  I am not to proud about my lack of self control, but it did make me realize I need to think about making sure I have an equal amount of each kind of block.  There are blocks that have color in the square and some that have black and white in the square.  So when those squares come together in the quilt I want to have two of each coming together.

I now wish I had a big design wall to put them on. But then I might spend too much time just staring at them.  I know I am already dreaming about a border!  Now on to the wonky star block and I can pat myself on my back for meeting my goal again this month.

  1. I love your pickle dishes. Do you use a template to cut the fabric, or are they paper-pieced?

    1. The curved part is paper pieced and I used a template for the gray. The squares are just cut with my rotary cutter. The pattern comes from a old Kaffe Fassett book I bought used on Amazon.

  3. They look great! Don't know why you wouldn't want to see how they all look together. I mean you are actually putting together a quilt and you wouldn't dream of making an entire quilt without checking how the blocks look together. Right?

    1. I usually don't , but I have seen mystery quilts done and thought it might be a nice surprise. Now I know why I haven't ever done a mystery quilt, I just can't wait.

  4. Those look great together! What a fun surprise - I figured I had to wait until December to see them all together! At least now you know you want certain amounts of color vs. white and black in the corners - a good thing you put them together this month to find that out! Enjoy playing with Green.

    1. I am glad that I did also. I was just cutting light and darks using the amount of fabric I had. I now realize I need to half of one kind and half of another. Making three a month you could end up with too many of one and not the other pretty easily.

    1. It's a stash buster. I had bought some bright fat quarters and then won the hand dyes so they are working out pretty great. Glad to see them off the shelf and into a useable quilt.

    1. They are fun blocks to make. I usually get bored with piecing but these are so pretty when they are finished that they are a joy to make. They are not as hard as my brain thought they would be.

  12. Oh Carla! Your blocks are looking FABULOUS! What fun. Making multiples will give you a much bigger quilt but I'm not sure I would get more than one done a month.

    1. Thanks Bonnie, They really are not that hard. I use paper piecing to do part of the block and the curves are not that difficult. So glad to finally use the brights have I purchased over the years out of the stash.

  15. Don't you love goal setting? And list making? Good for you getting them done. I love them laid out. I think you made a very lucky decision to go ahead and peak at how they were coming together as a full design. Now you can plan accordingly. It looks great!

  19. I am glad I figured out that I do need to do some planning. I guess that is why quilter's use a design wall. Maybe it is time to go to Home Depot for some styrofoam.
